Sawadee kha/khap! We’re Kat & Cam, a Thai & Kiwi couple with a big passion for Thailand travel. We met in Melbourne (Australia) in 2017 and took our first Thailand holiday together shortly after. Cam had visited the Land of Smiles once before, as a teenager with his family, but this trip was much more “immersive” as he was meeting Kat’s family and seeing her in her element for the first time: eating all kinds of delicious and strange street food, talking politics and local life with taxi drivers, lighting incense and praying in temples, and showing Cam the places only locals know of.
Since then we’ve been traveling to Thailand regularly for close to a decade now. While we enjoy adventures like island-hopping in the Andaman, riding motorbikes on the Mae Hong Son Loop and eating our way through the streets of Bangkok - the thing we always miss most about Thailand is heading to Chanthaburi (Kat’s hometown, where her family lives) and experiencing a much more local vibe.
Whether it’s riding on the back of pick-up trucks, eating exotic types of durian, or saying “chon” over a Thai whisky with friends - these moments stay with us because we’re getting the chance to slip into everyday local life. These local experiences are something we want to highlight in our travel blog: Thailand Wanderlust. With Kat as the local guide and Cam as the travel planner, we hope to bring you personal perspectives, detailed guides and local insights that will leave you feeling inspired for your next Thai adventure.
